Series Summary

Massage is a popular and beneficial treatment method for a variety of ailments, and had been for centuries. Evidence of the use of massage has been found in many ancient civilization such as china, India, Greece, Rome, and Egypt. Hippocrates, the Greek physician whom the Hippocratic oath is named after is purported to have said, “The physician must be experienced in many things, but assuredly in rubbing.” And if Hippocrates said it, then it must be true. And even if the massage techniques of today fall short in creativity compared to those of yesteryear—in Romania, some illnesses were treated by the patient being tread upon by a tame bear—more modern techniques are decidedly safer, and some would argue, more effective.

In this free video series, our expert Alexson Roy will teach you how to relax your massagee, teach you about the different muscle groups in the neck, and a couple different stroke techniques. Alexson will also teach you how to stretch the neck, how to work the trapezius, how to use pressure points, and how to use the kneading technique. Alexson will even teach you a bit about the lymphatic system and how to finish the massage.

Video Transcript

"Hello and thank you for watching Expert Village. This is about massage therapy. This particular series is about the neck, the most important part of the whole massage. This is probably the part that you should actually begin with, because this is where most of the tension that my clients and other therapist’s clients, this is where they hold most of their tension. Of course, the best thing to do is to relax the client, to connect with the client. That's kind of what we're going to do. Just press shoulders, press on the trapezius, push up on the neck. You don't want to apply to much pressure on the spinal cord. Press as much as you can and then just hold on the base of the neck. Press. Light touch. Lift up and then pull."
