"My name is Alv Rios and I am a paramedic with Lansing Mercy Ambulance on behalf of Expert Village. In this clip we are going to go over the reasons for a splint. The reason for a splint is because when you fracture a bone you have jagged end of the bone. The bones then every time they move can move around and cut different parts of your body. When they cut into different muscles or tissues then they can cause lasting effects, when it cuts into nerves it can cause lasting paralysis and when it cuts into blood vessels you can actually cause blood loss which will lead to death. The point of a splint is to keep the different bones ends from moving around and cutting those different vessels or tissues that way you can avoid any life threatening injuries."
