"So, another type of tool that?s, I guess, that can be used either as a double action tool or as a single action tool, is a tool called the pear shadier. Pear because it's sort of pear shaped. I guess I don't really know why they call it a shadier. It's really meant for making kind of more concave areas in a design. So a single action strike on the pear shadier really depends on how it's angled. I mean, you see, it has a really kind of a rounded tip, it kind of has a point here so, you could just look at it and imagine all the different ways you could strike it, and the different kinds of impressions you could make in the leather. It's generally used for making concave areas. So, you could do it, I guess, as a single action tool either straight or kind of angled to kind of make, there I've made kind of a little concave dent, it's really smooth. It's a lot more subtle than if I was doing the more kind of rough edged double action, I'm sorry, single action tool. But again, I can use this over a large area with kind of a double action principle and kind of make sort of large, basically large concave areas. See, so now I've kind of mashed down a bit of leather here. It's sort of subtle there but let me give you an example. Here's this kind of Mexican Skeleton I did and I used the pear shadier to make these sorts of depressed little kinds of dents in the hat here, the sombrero hat. Also on one side of the skull here. So, they're used again, for kind of this 3D effect. Here I've kind of cut out, sort of crudely, sort of the rough outline of a leaf, and I've used the beveller to kind of bevel the edge out. So that gives it its 3D effect where it's raised from the leather. But then maybe I can use the pear shadier and kind of get maybe some more texture to the leaf just by maybe doing a few impressions like this. As you can see now, it's starting to look like a leaf, almost like a little, like a holly leaf or something like that, giving it some texture, using the pear shadier."

on 10/6/2008 Excellent series of videos. The artist is obviously knowledgeable and clear, but the camera work could use some help. I found myself wanting to zoom in on what she was doing way more than the camera man did.
