In this clip, I'm going to talk about how to varnish a complete design on your belly casting. I prefer to use a spray varnish. It's easier to apply. There are non-yellowing varnishes that you can get at craft stores. This works best. Over time, certain varnishes may develop a yellowish tint to them. Using the spray varnish can be easier and you can purchase the non-yellowing to avoid that problem. When you are ready to varnish your belly, do it outside, in a well ventilated area. You can just go back and forth with the spray can using the average spray can technique. I put on one coat, let it dry. The directions will be on the can, obviously. I like to put another coat, and possible even a third coat. There are different varnishes you can use. Depending on the design, you may want a high gloss. You may want a matte, and there's also a semi-gloss, just as in regular paint. Those are the issues that we look at when we are varnishing a belly cast.
