Series Summary

Sewing is an ancient craft that still has remarkable relevance in today's modern world. The art of stitching and assembling pieces of fabric together, either by hand or with the use of a modern sewing machine, is still a valuable skill: it is the backbone of the textile industry; it comes in handy for clothing repair; fashion and design find it indispensable; and homemade clothing wouldn’t exist without it. Whether you use a sewing machine or a needle and thread, the techniques involved in constructing a well-fitting garment are very specific and involved. Becoming skilled at the craft is a lifelong pursuit.

Embroidery is a needlecraft where a design or pattern is overlaid on a piece of cloth. Often the designs created are intricate and add a level of refinement or character to a piece; much of the clothing of royalty is embroidered in some sort of fine, vibrant thread.

In this sewing video series, learn how to take a picture, pattern, or design and digitize it into a piece of embroidery. Our expert seamstress will show you how to load a picture onto the computer. Using embroidery software, get step-by-step instructions on how to overlay the stitches and colors and transform your picture into an embroidery design. Then get tips on how to load your design onto an embroidery machine and let it do the rest of the work.
