Surging the Edges When Making a Table Runner

"Hi, I'm Terri Turco with Expert Village. What we have down on this piece of fabric is we have surge the edges. Surging is basically a technique that is used on a certain machine to really make the edges very professional and complete and does not fray. If you don't have a surger, you have a zip zag that works as well. You don't need to finish the edges but I always think that it is a nice touch. Then what we are going to do is we are going to pin these edges together. Now since it is a table runner seems to run a little bit long, you are going to do this slowly, a little bit at a time. What is most important in pinning this article together is you do want to leave a opening cause you need to turn it inside out. So what we are going to do here is we are going to leave the opening about a five inch opening before the end of the table runner. Now as you see, we are starting to pin the fabric together, if you want to leave a opening because we want to have to turn it inside out. Alright! So I always recommend leaving the edge open cause that is what people notice cause it is usually in front of them. We can leave somewhere in between the body of this fabric opening so we can turn it inside out. I always recommend doing it five inches in from the end of the fabric inside which is right here. Just to know that is where the opening is going to be, I will put two pins right there just so I remember. Then you are going to make about a five inch opening that you can turn inside out. Then you just continue to pin just so it stays in place. Then when we come back what we are going to do is we are going to go to the sewing machine and just do a really simple stitch all the way around putting the two pieces together. It is really easy so make sure you come back. "
