How to Hold a Vacuum Cleaner Cord

"Hi. This is Travis on behalf of Expert Village talking to you about vacuuming. What I want to talk about now is how to hold the cord when you vacuum. Some cords, if you've ever noticed, if you've ever worked in a vacuum repair shop, people will come in and their cords are just tattered and torn. Ninety-nine percent of the time, this is because they've run over the cord with the vacuum. The only reason for that is because they are not paying attention or the cord is out in front of them somehow and they are vacuuming along and they happen to get on top of that cord. When that head is down to the carpet, that cord can get wrapped around that brush and roll inside there and get beat up pretty bad and it will tear the cord. So, you are going to cost yourself money because you are going to have to replace the cord. So, I want to show you how to properly hold the cord so that you can keep it out of your way while you are vacuuming so that you won't run your cord over. The best way to do it is if you are standing in this position, behind your vacuum, you are going to want to grab the cord and take it out to an arm's length. Then grab ahold of it, bring it up and maybe add another six or eight inches; just enough so that it's not dragging on the floor. You are just going to hold it with your left or right hand, depending on if you are left or right handed or whatever side of the machine you are on. That way, it allows you to move that cord in and out and keep that cord behind you. When you keep the cord behind you, you've got open floor in front of you. If you've got the open floor in front of you, you are going to be more efficient. You can go left to right, back and forth, and it's going to be easier. You are going to keep that cord preserved by not running it over, and preserve the longevity of everything. "
