"WILLIAM HUTCHINSON: Many of the tropical farms of Dendrobium and the dry high altitude plants will vary their growth form by having very, very sick fleshy leaves, which means they're capable of surviving severe drought and actually go for long periods of time without getting a lot of water. And one of the worst things you can do when you're growing it is to provide too much water because the plant will respond very nicely to you by dying. So, and you have to get used to it. The thin leaf forms on the other hand usually have a more fleshy stem which has the ability to store water. But as a consequence, as they go into dry period in their environment, they'll begin loosing the foliage. And the foliage loss is a normal procedure with this, meaning that the plants are getting ready to follow."
