"WILLIAM HUTCHINSON: Most people don't really think of orchids growing where it's cold or where snow could be an issue. But there are a number of orchids particularly in the genus Dendrobium, which grow in very, very cold wet places. The interesting thing is the colors that they produced, and here's one that's just beginning to show a little bit of the color, is they produce flowers of such intent, vibrant purples and reds that it's almost unbelievable. And furthermore, they produce some on stems, which don't have a leaf left on them. But it is not uncommon to have these Dendrobiums grow and exhibit a variety of leaf in flower color. And here's another one that is more cerulean on its coloration as opposed to the deep intense purple of Victoria Regia."
