"Let's talk about compatible wall plates. This is an item that should not be neglected. The dimmer switch that you selected may take a different style wall plate than the switch you are replacing with a dimmer switch. The existing wall plate will work for the toggle type or rotary switch. The rotary could also use another type of wall plate that has a small round whole in the center instead of a rectangular cut out. However the lever switch, uses a completely different wall plate. You will also want to choose the correct color. If you have any existing wall plates next to where you will be installing the dimmer switch, know what color they are. Typically they are either bright white or else almond. Make sure that you know the difference. If you keep these tips in mind, you will save yourself an extra trip to the home center. "
