" I am Tim for Expert Village and we’re continuing on cutting outside corners for shoe molding. So, basically what I was saying about marking the back, you measure on the back side of your piece because that is going to be your short end and that is going to be the end that is tied against the wall. So basically you want to make a mark near the top of the back kind of like that and then that way when you put it against your saw you can add just a little bit to it right on the very top and that will be your mark. If you mark it on the front, then you’re not going to be able to tell if it is right or not when you pull your saw down and it could mess up your measurement and if you don’t have enough material you might run out. So basically mark it on the back, then just bring it over on to the top just like that. That way when you pull your blade down you can put it exactly where it needs to go and you will get a perfect cut every time. So also when you are cutting for outside corners of course you do your 45 degree angle. It depends on the saw but it is just as simple as spinning this top part and it has got a little clip that clips it into place to make sure you are at 45 degrees for sure. So we will demonstrate with this small piece here and I will show you how they fit together and then we will cut our real piece and take it in there. So always remember your safety goggles. There is a 45 degree angle, just like that. This would be the piece for the left hand side of the corner and then the right hand side of the corner you’ve got to switch your 45 all the way to the other side like that because in order for them to meet correctly, I mean two 45s cut the same way are just going to make a straight piece. So you got to re-cut. We’ll just cut a little piece of this one, just like that and then the two pieces of 45 degrees meet like that and make an outside corner just like that. So we will go ahead and cut our correct measurements, take our pieces and then see how they fit."

on 8/2/2008 This video series was extremely helpful. I asked 5 different people how to measure the angles for my floor board shoes and no one could give me an accurate answer until I found Tim on Expert Village.com! Thanks, Tim.
