"And what is a Hybrid? A Hybrid is a cross between two distinct parents that are inbred for specific traits. Disease resistance, evening ripening, firm skins. These are the typical Hybrid tomatoes. You find them at the store. This is not a tomato. So they have been bred for commercial purposes to be machine picked, to last on the shelf for 3 to 4 weeks and pretty much you get what amounts to a tennis ball; slightly different color. Not all Hybrids are bad. There are Hybrid vigor that makes for a healthier plant and Sungold Cherry Tomatoes is one of our favorite tomatoes of any kind. So not all Hybrids are bad but in general they work towards breeding the taste out of them and the shelf life and shipping, machine picking is all industrial traits of what they have been breeding for. "
