"The first step for any crop is preparing the soil. This actually starts a year ahead of time for garlic. We are going to try and condense a whole year's worth of time in to one short little demo for you, so bare with us. We rotated this with a rototiller and we are going to dig nice earth worms, nice soil. The first thing we are going to do here is plant a cover crop. This would be done in the Spring of the year that you are going to plant it in the Fall. Garlic gets planted in the Fall and harvested the next Summer. So the Spring before the Fall that you plant, we are going to put down our cover crop and it adds organic matter to the soil. There's a cover. I'll show you what that is now."
