"This is basic fire safety. After you practice your fire drill several times and become very comfortable with it, I recommend that you practice in a more realistic setting. You must keep in mind during a fire, smoke will blind your vision pretty badly in such a manner that you won't be able to see; you won't have that perfect lighting. So what we recommend is that you do this several different ways. You can do this practicing with the lights off or you can do it blindfolded. Keep in mind though if you are blind folded you should probably have one person on standby so that they can watch so you don't bump into anything. Any how in this case what we are going to is we are going to do it with the lights off. My safety motto is yelled fire, I've come out of the bed, got down as low as possible, found the wall staying low in my orientation point, I made it to the closest door, felt for heat and now I made it to outside the doorway. I remain low even though we have a nice opened spot as close to the door as possible and I head for my known closest exit. In this case, I've practiced this several times and know that my closest exit is to my right. I am going to stay low keeping close to the wall and I am going to head close to the door and exit in a safe manner."
