Drainage Importance & Raised Garden Beds

"One of the most important components are things that you want to make sure that you have right in any raised bed situation. Whether you are building a box that sits directly on the ground and has adequate drainage down the bottom or you're drilling holes in the bottom of a plastic container that you got something shipped to you, drainage is critical. There has to be oxygen as well as moisture on the roots and so you can get a rotten root system almost no vegetable plants that you'll be raising in your garden, like wet feet. We're not raising swamp plants. These plants are designed to grow fruit and they need to have a healthy root system and drainage is the only way you're going to get there. Water that comes in from the top any access has to be able to evacuate and get out of the root zone pretty quickly or the roots will rot and the plant will go into series shock. You'll end up with at least low production if not the lost of your plants and effort we'll be for nothing."
