"One thing about a table saw is the danger of cutting your fingers off. There’s always the classic teacher missing at least 2 fingers. A few years ago, guy named Steve Glass invented the saw stop. What this is basically is an air bag for you table saw. I’ve seen demonstrations where they roll a hot dog along with a piece of wood, the hot dog simulating flesh. An electric current that sent through the blade senses the moisture content of the hot dog. A plastic shoes jams into the tooth a blade and the blade automatically drops down. This all happens in 5 milliseconds, so basically you’re talking about the difference between losing 3 or 4 fingers and just having a little band aide cut. Right now this device is similar between 2 and 3 thousand dollars, but once it gets more used and saw makers start making their saw compatible with it, those prices will come down. It’ll save a lot of people’s fingers."
