" I'm Rob McManhon with Expert Village. It is important to maintain your tools. One thing that is always good to do is to keep the dust collection systems well empty. Now this one was emptied recently. If you don't keep them empty then this gets all clogged up and backs in to the tool. That can cause problems. So keep the bags empty. With a random orbit sander this edge here can get torn up especially if you are working into a corner and the edge of it is hitting on the wall. This whole corner can get all chewed up and when you are using a new piece of paper then the edge of that paper would get chewed up because of this pad. This particular pad was newly replace actually. The way that you do it is just this one screw right in the center there. A long screw. It is not really spinning the mechanism here. "
