" I'm Rob McManhon with Expert Village. Sand paper is graded by the grits. The grit is the roughness, the size of the size of the roughness of the paper. Now that can be any where from a 30 grit which is very coarse to 800 grit and up for fine polishing. Now the most common uses for wood would be any where from 80 grit to 220. what we have here is 80, these disk are 220, and this is a 60 grit here on this. 60 grit is for removing a lot of material quickly. Now the different types of grit are made out of different things. This particular grit is aluminum oxide. There is also garnet and you got to the supper fine grit it could be diamond dust. It all depends on what you uses are for the garnet is more expensive then the aluminum oxide, diamond is obviously the most expensive one of all and they last according to there price. The garnet for wood work is about the top quality that you need."
