Applying Adhesive to Install Vinyl Flooring in Your Basement

"Hi! This is Steven from Keilholz Flooring on behalf of Expertvillage.com. In this segment, I am going to show you how the apply the adhesive for your new floor installation in your basement. The first thing I want to do is because I am working in a small area is I am going to take my bucket of adhesive and I am going to move it to this side of the material so that it does not move, when I pull it back. Now, I am going to grab the material by the corner. I am going to be careful with what I am doing and I am going to pull it towards me about halfway and I am going to fold it back. I'm going fold it back until I get exactly one half of the material exposed. Making sure that I do not crease my material in the process. Now, I am going to take the lid off the bucket of adhesive and I am going to put some adhesive on my trowel. And the first thing I am going to do is I am going to do the perimeter of the area that I am gluing. The notches on the trowel measure the amount of adhesive that you are putting down. It is very important that you look at the bucket of adhesive and follow the manufacturer’s specifications on the trowel size. As you are doing this, you want to make sure that you get everything adhered. You do not want any dry spots whatsoever and as you are doing this also you may pick some material up on your trowel. You want to make sure that have that it does interfere with your spread rate. The next thing you want to do is get a good glob of glue and start spreading it. Make a wall in a swirling motion with the trowel set at a 45 degree angle, start swirling your adhesive on. Make sure there are no high ridges in the adhesive and again it is very important to make sure you are getting all the spots. Basically we are going to lap this side back the same way we did the first half, but what we are going to do is we are going to pull it to our existing glue line. You do not want to pull your material out of the glue line you already have. So what we are going to do is pull to our existing glue line right here. Then we are going to spread our adhesive."
