Texturing your Wall before Faux Painting : DIY Faux Painting

"Alright, this is a really great example of a different kind of texture. We started with that really light texture that we had in the other room, but we added some more mud to this- some plaster on the wall with a trowel to get this look that we wanted. We first put it on and then we sort of dragged it off, and then after that, we put the base coat back on top of it and then fauxed on top. And as you can see, it created some really great depth for the faux finish as well as some areas that would make those cracks more believable. This is a really great idea if you want to go even deeper, if you want to make it look really old, it would be great to add the texture to the room. There’s also a different type of texture called Venetian plaster. You can also read about that or learn how to do that- that’s a different type of texture. But this just happens to be plain mud that you get from the hardware store. And with a spackling knife put it on there, let it dry overnight, and faux as usual. "
