"Hi, my name is Peter Gutwein and we’re talking about some basic maintenance on a lawnmower, walk behind mower and the next step here after you take the blade off would be to sharpen the blade and other then taking it to your local lawnmower shop and having them sharpen is anywhere from like 7 to $15, depending on your blade style and obviously how many blades you have, if you have a bigger tractor and it has three or four blades then it’s going to cost a little bit more. But it’s still is a lot cheaper than buying a new blade, a new blade goes for about 15 to $30. So what you’re going to want to do here is put it on some kind of vise to hold it down and then I use just a personal grinder that you could get a at hardware store or whatever and I just put a nice edge on the top and then I get rid of on the bottom. Keeping in mind that you have to keep the blade balanced. To balance a blade, how you can do it you can buy a real expensive balancer or you can just put a nail on the wall or something to hang it on and just to make sure that you have an even weight on both sides and that way it keeps your mower from riddling and stuff to that. So we’re going to go ahead and put an edge on this and see how it turns out. Okay, I sharpened both sides and we’re just going to do a quick check to see how the balance is, I got a little thing right here I can hang it on here and as you can see it’s balanced pretty well. So we got lucky the first time. As you’re sharpening you just want to make sure you get all the nicks out from hitting stones and stuff like that. This blade was in pretty good shape, but I got her nice and sharp now so she’s ready for the next cut. So that’s how you sharpen a basic lawnmower blade. "
