Creating a finish on wood furniture that has a beautiful depth of color and character is not easy. It takes many steps and a lot of elbow grease. The product however is worth the work. Wood such as mahogany requires filler to flatten out the surface so that it can be stained, lacquered, and polished flat. Applying many layers gives depth to the finish and polishing with steel wool creates a hand rubbed effect that few are willing to achieve.
In this free woodworking series, you learn how to age a pine wardrobe to make it look like an antique. Our expert will demonstrate how to apply the stain, then how to nick, dent and scratch your furniture to make it look like its been in the family for decades. Your whole family can join in the fun of beating up the furniture because Richard Buccola will show you how to blend all of the damage into a seamless "aged" finish. So get creative with your latest furniture project and follow the easy steps in these free wood project videos.
"Okay, in this first clip I just want to teach you or show you the proper ways to get started before we start the project. Okay, before we even get started even talking about staining or whitewashing, you might want to have a big area to work in, or at least an area that you don't make a mess. Alright, so clean out some areas, move some furniture and put down your tarp, and that's where you're going to have your work area. You might also want to have an old work bench. Something that you don't mind if it gets dirty or out of place. And remember also: always wear old clothes. Throw on some old jeans, some sneakers. Good project for the kids to get them involved, too. So this is about just painting, having fun, but remember these are some harsh chemicals sometimes so you're going to want to open some windows and have some good cross-ventilation. Today I'm going to show you a little bit about everything when it comes to this project, and we're going to have a lot of fun. So come back and join me as we're going to start to stain and whitewash the armoire furniture. "
