"Ok, our next step is going to be to cut some smooth edge stock on the table saw to make the base for the lamp. Now this piece of wood right here is almost four inches. But, like I said measurements are going to vary a lot with this old wood, so you can kiss straight, and square, and regular, kiss it all goodbye. I'm going to go ahead and cut this piece down so it's a total width of three and a half inches. I'll start by just trimming one side a little bit. We set the board up in here, so just an edge about an eighth of an inch contacts the blade. The blade needs to be about an eighth to three eighth, a quarter to three eighths of an inch above the wood. Always wear your eye protection, you do not want to get a splinter of this stuff in your eye, it's awful! Keep your fingers on this side of the fence, so your hand can't go into the blade. Pretty straight."
