"We’ve been replacing door trim around the front door, and we’re to the point now where it’s all scraped and we want to fit and cut the trim. You should always fit the trim instead of measure it- that always works out better in the long run. And you want to make sure that the area down here is free of all this debris that you have from removing the old trim, so that when you fit the new trim in, it will sit right. Then, you want to take the piece of trim and make sure that it goes in the same spot that the old trim was in. and door trim sits back approximately, just a hair over halfway- that would be about three eighths of an inch overlapping the door frame. And then the same on the top, and you want to mark this trim. Now, you’re going to cut this off the other end, but you want to mark it down here and you can measure this and move it to that end. Once you can get to a spot where you can cut the trim outside, you want to transpose this amount to be cut off to this end down here, which is already pre-marked on the side. Then you just take it, lay it down, take you a speed square or an adjustable square and mark it. And then you just cut the end off with a small hand saw. You could use a skill saw, but that might tear up your trim. And that’s how you measure and cut the trim. "
