"Hello! My name is Lindsay on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip I’m going to be showing you how to mark and measure your material. A blouson valance looks best when hung on the outside of the window. So when you measure your window on the height you’re going to measure from where ever the rod is to however long you want your valance to hang. On the width you’re going to measure the width of your window and add 6 inches, you’re going to have an inch on each side for the hemming and the extra 4 inches is going to be 2 inches to hang on each side of the window. Now I’m going to show you how to mark where you should hem the material…you’re going to make sure you put your measuring tape at the very end of the fabric and come in one inch and put a straight pin, you’re going to do this all the way down the fabric. When you do this all the way down the fabric you’re also going to do the other side of the material, we’re not going to do the tops and bottoms yet just the sides."
