"Hi! I'm Lori for expertvillage.com and today we're at Archibald Flowers, and we're going to talk about how to purchase flowers. The flower industry has changed a lot of the years. You don't see as many small flower shops, and that's probably because a lot of the flower industry has gone into mass market. In that sense, is that you want to make sure that if you are buying flowers and you're not buying them from a flower shop that gets flowers every single day and provides a fresh product, that you want to know what you're looking for in a fresh product to be able to have your flowers last more than one day. There's nothing more disappointing than going ahead and spending 20 dollars on a bouquet that you think it's a really great bouquet, and the next day you wake up and it's dead. You want to make sure that when you're looking for the flowers that you look at them and you look at the freshness. A lot of times the firmness of a flower, a flower that the petals were all bent back, you would know that this flower has been around for way too long and you don't want to purchase a flower like that. Same with flowers that have a little sturdier head to them. The softness or the hardness of the flower will tell you that that flower has been around way too long. A lot of times you'll see flowers like this that haven't open. That doesn't necessarily mean that they are the freshest flowers, but you can look at them and see that yes these flowers are not quite open yet. I know that when I purchase these flowers that I will get a few more days out of it once I purchase these flowers."
