Summary: You will almost always have fasteners left over after any project. Having a way to organize and store them will keep your woodshop uncluttered. Learn about fastener organization and storage for your woodshop in this free home video.
"Hi, this is Jon, and in this video clip I'll be talking about fastener organization and storage. Now typically when you're building some type of a project and you go to your home center and buy some fasteners, you're going to have a few left over at the end of the project, so it's always good to create some type of system to store those extra fasteners so that you can always get some on a later project, or if you're just doing stuff around the house, you have those accessible. One good method is to purchase a drawer system such as this one. On the front of it there's a little spot for you to label what's in each drawer. If I'm doing a project where I need concrete floor or wall anchors, I know that they're going to be in this particular drawer. And they also sell smaller versions of these drawers so that if, maybe you don't have a lot of one item left over, you can put it in one of your smaller drawers. Now when it comes to large quantities of different types of fasteners, here we have brads and pin nails, we designate specific shelves for each specific fastener. On one shelf we have all of our pin nails so that if we need to restock in the wood shop we know exactly where to go to get those. And another shelf we have all of our brads, so again, if we need to restock, we know exactly where they are. The main thing you want to avoid is just having some random shelves with some random items on it because it's less efficient and there's a good chance you're not going to be able to find what you're looking for and have to go buy more, and that ends up costing you more money in the end.
