Garage Band Joists for Home Insulation

"Hi! My name is Joshua Lindsey with CFM Building Science Solutions. On behalf of Expert Village, we are doing a frame walk and insulation inspection on this home. The next thing on our list is going to be the garage band joist air barrier. What that is talking about is when we blow the insulation into the attic, we are not going to insulate the garage. So therefore, how are we going to stop the insulation in a way that works efficiently. For instance right up here on the top, I am going to need to put an air barrier that sticks up into the attic; hopefully you can see this. I need to put an air barrier that sticks up in the attic so that when I blow this whole attic in with insulation, that air barrier holds my insulation on the end without allowing it to just fall over the edge into an uninsulated area. So that is something that we are going to need to think about; how to put that air barrier and implement that right up here in this end. "
