Series Summary

One of the important advancements in construction technology is air conditioning. Air conditioners have saved the lives of thousands of people that would otherwise be suffering from heat stroke in the hot summer months. Part of developing air conditioning technology is to install good duct work in your home and make sure your home is pressurized well and not leaking air conditioning. A house that is not properly pressurized will cost you more money in electricity and wear your ducting and air conditioner down quicker.

In this free video series, watch as construction science expert Joshua Lindsey teaches how to give a duct test. Learn how to control, set up and read a manometer, how to interpret test results, and the benefit of having a good pressurized home with proper ducting. Start saving money on your electricity bill and taking care of your appliances today with these easy step by step videos.

Video Transcript

"Hi! My name is Joshua Lindsey with CFM Building Science Solution. On behalf of Expert Village, we are going to do a duct test in this house. We are doing a rough duct test on this house. Rough duct meaning literally that the house being built is in the rough stage. What we are going to do go all through the house and take all the registers off like this so we are covering everything up. Okay we've got that register, we've got that register over here. We are going to go through every register through the whole house and we are going to tape it off just like that. After we have taped all of our registers off what we are going to do is we are going to come into the room right here and we are going to poke a little hose right up inside here. This little hose is going to run to our computer and it is going to tell us what the pressure is inside that duct work. We are taping up the duct work so that we can seal it off. Where the vent is, you want the air to come out right there. We are going to seal off all those areas because we want to figure out how much air is leaking out into. In this case, Tuscon, Arizona. Everybody knows it is impossible to cool Tuscon but a lot of people are trying because they have leaky duct work. So we are going to test and see just how leaky. "
