on 8/2/2008 Excellent series Joshua.
I have an energy-use consulting company in Philadelphia and thought this would be a great informational resource for potential customers. When they ask about blower door tests I've been telling them about this site.
Also, viewers of this site interested in energy savings might like a page on my site that lists 365 ways to save energy. Here's the page:

Keep up the good work Joshua.

on 2/1/2009 One thing not touched on by this demonstration is the need for a blower door that produces 50pa of negative pressure. My company a few years ago purchased 2 blower door systems and did not realize this. We ended up having to purchase two more systems because of the need to produce 50pa. We finally ended up going with the the retrotec Q4E http://www.aikencolon.com/Retrotec-Q4E-Air-Blower-Door-Standard_p_1639.html . There are others as well http://www.aikencolon.com/Retrotec-Air-Blower-Systems_c_1074.html

I would highly recommend talking to a trained distributor on blower or duct blowers before purchasing one, and I also highly recommend getting training on the system.

"Hi! My name is Joshua Lindsey with CFM Building Science Solution. On behalf of Expert Village, we are going to be doing a blower door test on this home. What is the benefit of me knowing how air tight my home is. And again, throughout all of this process, we've talked about the fact that if you are heating or cooling air and you have a leak in your home and that air that you've spent money to heat or cool, is simply going to the outside and leaking outside then more air from the outside is replacing that air. If air leaks out, then air has to come back in from somewhere so now you are losing air that you've already spent money to heat or cool and you are having to heat or cool more air to keep your house the climate zone that you want it to be at.
