on 11/28/2008 This series was very helpful. I am just starting to understand the system in my new house and the map will be helpful to the electrician that I am hiring.

"Hi! This is John on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip, I will show you Part 3 in mapping your electrical system. Now that we’ve mapped all of our electrical outlets, we are going to map our switches and our ceiling fixtures. So we are going to locate our switch and draw it on the wall. This is drawn as an S with a line through it, kind of like a dollar sign. Our ceiling fixtures are drawn as a circle with 4 lines coming out of the center of it. It looks kind of like a sun. As with the electrical outlets, we are going to have one person at the service entrance flipping circuits. When they have flipped the correct circuit that turns the light off, we are going to note what circuit that is on. We found that the lights and the switch was circuit 15, so we are going to go ahead and note 15 next to the switch and next to the fixture. The next thing you are going to do is go ahead and continue on throughout your entire house."
