"In this video clip, I will be showing you step 6 of installing a ball valve. I am going to go ahead and show you a few tips for soldering. I am going to solder this ball valve on the ground primarily for the purpose of just being able to see it a little bit better. A lot of times where you work over your head for putting a ball valve in the ceiling, you can’t really see things too well. So what I am going to do is I have one end in already, and I am going to put another end in. So you want to make sure that you put a little solder paste on your pipe, and this is going to help that solder flow. Go ahead and fit that in there. Now a few quick things before we get started. One, you want to make sure that all the water is always out of your pipe. If there is still water in the pipe, all you are going to be doing is heating up the water, and the water is going to take all of the heat and the pipe will never get warm enough to solder. As I solder, I am going to get my torch and I am going to heat up the pipe. When the pipe starts to smoke, and you might even see a little bit of green flame, you are going to take your solder and you are going to move the flame away and you are going to roll the solder on the pipe. You are just going to touch it to it and roll it. Now when I do this, I’ll heat it up and I’ll test it, heat it up and test it, and I’ll continue doing that until I can roll my solder on. It is only necessary to touch the top edge of the pipe. The solder will feed its way around the entire pipe."
