"Hi, this is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip I'll be talking about tips for buying a stud finder. I have two different types of stud finder tools and each one has its own pros and cons. On our first tool our stud finder gives us the option of either wood or metal studs to be locating. Now, this is a very useful tool especially if you're working on multiple job sites. Whereas our other stud finder is specifically designed for finding woods studs. If you take a look at the size of the different stud finders, the one on the left here is quiet a bit smaller which means it's going to be easier to carry around, it's going to fit in your tool belt a little bit better. Whereas this larger one could potentially fall out of your tool belt and be a little bit harder to carry around. One of biggest features that I always recommend to people is this little light right here. Now that light is going to tell you if there is a live electrical wires in the wall that you're looking for the studs in. This a real big safety precaution and in my opinion it's a big necessity when looking for a stud finder tool. The next thing that you want to think about is the weight factor. Our larger stud finder here is almost double the weight as our smaller one. Now, when a stud finder is a little bit heavier it does make it a little bit harder to manage especially if you have a hammer in one hand and your stud finder in the other hand and you're trying to do a couple of tasks at once. Now the nice thing about this stud finder is that when you do initialize it, it will shoot out a laser beam so that when you're looking for that stud you'll be able to know where that stud is the entire length of the wall. Especially if you have real high walls and maybe someone is working above you, you can locate that stud and they'll be able to know where to nail directly above you."
