Summary: Learn how to use a laser line level and stud finder to detect a metal stud in this free educational video series.
"Hi, this is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip we will be detecting metal studs. Before detecting metal studs, the first thing we need to do is change our selection to metal studs just to let our tool know that we do in fact want a metal stud and not a wood stud since these two different studs are obviously comprised of different materials. If you're on the wrong setting you can get an inaccurate reading. Much like finding a wood stud we need to calibrate our tool. Once that has been calibrated we're going to slowly move it across and we're going to have that target start to appear when we're getting close to a stud. Now when it hits right there, it hits the edge of the stud we're going to mark it and when it hits the edge of a stud again we're going to mark that again. Now, we're then going to come back in the opposite direction, calibrated first to see if that stud is actually there. There's one edge and the other edge."
