Parts of a Power Router Bit on a Fixed Base Power Router

"In this video clip, I will be talking about the parts of a router bit. When taking a look at a router bit, there are a couple different parts that you need to be aware of. This metal part here, which is the part that will be inserted into the collet, is called the shank. We have our cutting edge, and that’s what will actually dig into the wood or whatever material you’re cutting. Up towards the top, we have a bearing, and that bearing will act as a guide on our material, allowing us to make the type of cut that we need to do. If you take a look at this router bit, it still has our shank and it still has our cutting edge. However, you’ll notice that is does not have a bearing. However, when you would use this bit you would have to use some other type of a guide to make sure you’re getting straight cuts."
