Summary: Learn how to use the safety switch on a portable thickness planer in this free DIY woodworking video.
" Hi! This is Jon on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this video clip I’ll be talking about the safety switch. The safety switch is located on the front of the planer. To turn it on, what you’ll do is go ahead and flip it up, and to turn it off you’re going to go ahead and push it back down. Now the reason that it’s so big is that when it is on the on position, if anything were to happen and you were to have to shut it off, there’s more of a chance that you would be able to get that turned off. Now the motor is also attached with a circuit breaker device, and the motor reset is located just above the safety switch. So if you were to be running the planer, and there would be any problems, or the power would go out, or a board would get caught or something and shut off the motor, you’ll want to make sure to turn off your planer, and you may have to hit this safety switch which will reset your planer—but most importantly you want to make sure that before you do this, you have made sure that you turned off your planer."
