"Hi! This is John on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip, I will be showing you some basic framing tips. If you take a look at your tape measure, you will notice that the number 16 is highlighted. This is going to tell us that a stud is going to be put on every 16 inches. Now if you look at our tape measure, we are on 42 inches. This one is highlighted in the same way that the 16 was. This is going to help you to be able to lay out your studs. When laying out a wall, you are going to want there to be a stud on the end of each wall and then every 16 inches, there is going to be another stud. When it comes to electrical boxes and phone junction boxes, we are going to want a stud on each side of it so that we can frame it in so that we still have access to it once we are finished. Another tip for framing; if your piece does not reach the full distance, you can go ahead and butt the two pieces up together and add a little piece on top of it to help hold both those pieces together. "
