"Hi! This is John on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip, I will be talking about buying lumber. Here I have two different types of lumber. This piece of lumber is treated and this piece of lumber is untreated. You know that it is treated because it is green. It is going to be a lot heavier and it almost feels kind of wet. Our untreated lumber will be quite a bit dryer, lighter and it just feels dry. Since we are going to be building our wall so that it sits on the floor which is made of concrete, we are going to need to put treated lumber. The reason why we use treated lumber is because treated lumber does not rot, bugs won’t eat it, and it’s not going to get termites in it or anything like that. So anywhere our wall is going to touch the concrete, we are going to make sure that we have this treated lumber. Before you begin, you are going to want to make sure you have enough lumber so you will need to calculate out how much lumber you are going to need to buy. Figure that you will be putting a stud or an untreated piece of wood every 16 inches. As you calculate out for your lumber, you will know that there will be a stud on the end of the wall and then a stud every 16 inches. "
