" Hi! This is John on behalf of Expert Village. Now what we are going to be doing, since we have cleaned out the chimney, the next step is to get the fireplace itself ready for the season. What you need to do is pick up this grate right here; this is for holding the logs in the fireplace and you will notice there is a good layer of ashes right here that is left from last season. What you need to do is scoop that up, take and put this in your plastic bag. The reason you want to get this out of here is because you want to have as much as air as possible that can circulate underneath the wood for a good burn. You want to take out all the ash that you can. You have to do this on a regular basis as you know when you are burning wood you are going to have a build up of ashes from time to time. "
