on 9/20/2008 Can I use a shop vac to clean a small pond? My husband has an older one and I would like to use it to clean the bottom of a small pond on our patio. The pond is a hard plastic stuff so its just debris from plants and wind. Thanks for any comments.

"Hi, this is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip ,I'll be talking about personal safety. In addition to eye protection, you always want to have ear protection. The shop vac can get loud at times especially if you're in a confined spaces, such as the inside of the automobile, you want to make sure that you keep any loose clothing or jewelry or if you have long hair, make sure you keep that away from any and all openings on the shop vac. There is a lot of suction power and it does have the potential to suck in maybe your shirt and you can potentially get injured. Additionally, you may want to think about using a dust mask or some type of a respirator if you are using the vacuum in a dusty environment it can kick up a lot of debris and dust that you can inhale. The dust mask or respirator would help safe guard you against anything you might get in your lungs. Lastly you just want to stay alert watch what you're doing and always use common sense."
