Video Transcript

"Hi! This is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip, we will be taking a look at the grade around our foundation. When checking the grade around your foundation, you want a nice slope to be going away from your foundation so that when it rains or if snows builds up and eventually starts to melt, it is going to melt and flow away from your house, not towards it. On the back of our house here, you see where dirt was brought in to raise the level of the ground so that we had a nice slope going away from the house. Now on the other side of our house, you can see an area where the ground has sunk so much that it is actually a bit of the plain block and you can see where it was painted when the ground was a little bit higher. Now if we got a big build up of snow and it started to melt, again that water could seep into the house through the foundation. To remedy this, what we will want to do is bring in some dirt and form a nice slope going away from the house and plant grass on that and that will really keep the water away from the house and hopefully solve any moisture problems.
