"Hi! This is Jon on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip, we will be checking our chimney. Now if you have a chimney that is brick or block, you are going to want to check the mortar to make sure that none is loose or deteriorated or any missing. Our chimney here is sided and is trimmed out with some wood. The big thing that we are looking for on this is areas where water may have seeped in and started to tear away the paint or potentially get into the chimney. Here we have a little bit that needs to be repaired. Toward the top of our chimney here, you see where the water has started to drip down and deteriorate the lumber up there. So we are going to have to go in and either replace the lumber or if it is not too bad, we will just repaint it and re caulk it. Now if we take a look at underneath the chimney, I see an area that is started to wear away and we should probably replace this with a new board and reseal all the edges. "
