Summary: Learn how to install the belt on a belt sander in this free educational video series.
"Hi, this is Jon on behalf of ExpertVillage. In this video clip, I'll be showing you how to install a sanding belt. First off, we need to ensure that our belt sander is unplugged. Next, we need to flip up our belt sander and locate that belt release lever. After that, we need to raise that belt release lever. This is going to take any tension off of where our belt is going to go. Inside of our new belt, there is arrows that show the direction of travel of the belt. In addition, there is arrows on the belt sander itself that show the direction of travel. These arrows need to line up with each other. Next, we need to go ahead and place our belt over our rollers making sure that those arrows line up with each other. Lastly, we need to put that tensioning lever down. And, this is going to put tension on the belt holding it securely in place. "

on 8/2/2008 I couldn't figure out how to install and secure the belt on my sander. I was very happy to find this video clip and thought it was well-done, detailed and explanatory. Unfortunately, my sander is not designed at all like the one in the video so I can't continue. My sander is a Chicago. It has a release lever but it also has a large tension-like screw on the opposite side which is hard to tighten. I can't figure out how to easily get the belt on. Once it's on I secure the lever and tighten the screw but when I start the motor the belt just flies off.
