Summary: Learn valuable safety tips for operating a belt sander in this free educational video series.
"Hi, this is Jon on behalf of ExpertVillage. In this video clip, I'll be talking about additional safety instructions. Before starting a sanding operation, you want to make sure and check your work piece for any type of metal objects. This could include staples, or nails, or just any other metal debris that could have gotten on your wood. If you do sand on these, it will generate sparks which could ignite dust particles. You want to make sure to empty the dust bag frequently. When using the belt sander, you want to make sure you don't operate it for a long period of time. The vibration that it creates could cause permanent injury to your hands and your fingers. You want to make sure and take frequent rest periods while your using it. Also, if you're using this tool where there could be any type of electrical wires that you could hit, you want to make sure and hold it by the insulated portions of the belt sander. "
