It's purpose in life is to prevent any water that might be after you shower that is sitting in here collecting bacteria, may be days or weeks or just overnight that it does not get sucked back down into the water system contaminating the water. That is what this device does called the back flow preventer. Now, we have a threaded fitting here, which we are going to put Teflon tape on is as we have done before so we will do three revolutions in the clockwise direction with the Teflon tape. Be careful not to have it fall into the water flow area. Break that off. "
