So you want to remodel your home. Where do you start? Aside from determining which room needs the most work or what project you least dread, you’ll need to have the right tools for the job. Whether it’s painting the exterior of your house, putting in a new sink, installing a ceiling fan, or knocking down a wall, having the proper equipment is half the battle in completing any home improvement project. You’ll soon find out that it’s impossible to install a shower head with a hand saw.

In this free do-it-yourself video series, learn how to use tools commonly needed for any home remodel. Our expert will show you the professional way to use tools such as a hammer, a phillips head screwdriver, ladder, wire strippers, an Xacto knife, and more. Using such precise measuring tools such as a carpenter’s square and a level will help prevent shoddy workmanship, such as crooked shelving or doors that won’t shut properly. Put these tips to work and your house will thank you.

"Hi I'm Drew Finn here for Expert Village we are going to talk about standard hand tools and how to use them. We are going to talk about measuring devices. We have folded wooden ruler and a tape measure different application for each of them. The folding ruler obviously you have to be very careful when you fold out that you don't bend it this way you can break it. Don't let your kids play with this one. So as for the scale on the tape measure every 16 inches are highlighted there are different types of scale, there are different types of devices but most of them are 16 inch center because that is where the studs are usually are. Another unique thing about these wooden scales it has a nice little metal extension that comes out about 6 inches so you can measure the depth of holes or the distance on how thick something is you jsut set it on there. Run it down and then you can read what the depth is so that is a very handy device. "
