"Hi! I'm Drew Finn and I am here for expertvillage.com. I am a professional home inspector and I am going to show you how to install a ceiling fan. Now we are going to mount the base, the cup into the mounting bracket to hold it. The cup has a slide hole and a regular round hole. How that is going to work is we are going to put one screw in the mounting base; there are places for two screws. Line it up ahead of time so you can see which side you want to put the screw in. It has to be the one with a slot and then the one on the other side is going to be in the same fashion. Now these screws have a lock washer on them. So make sure the lock washer is pulled out toward the end of the screw so when we lift this up and put it in we are going to be able to be on the outside of that. Now we are going to take it off the hanging bracket; very carefully tuck the wires in so they are out of the way. We slide this up into the slot. Need to slash on both sides and once they are all the way up there, just twist it. Now it is going to hang by itself and we are going to tighten these screws. Now we put the final screw in for the mount. We got the one here with the slot and if we don't put the second screw in, then eventually it will vibrate, rotate and the thing could drop out. It is utmost important that we get this screw in as we finish the process. So start it by hand; we don't want to cross thread anything. They do have lock washes so once they are tight you are not going to loosen on us. It is so tight I want to tighten this one back in; tighten that original one. I've got a Phillips screwdriver here and use this sliding one to get this last little bit of torque. We got the one on the far side also and tighten the slotted one. I am going to grab a slided screwdriver and tighten it further. We've secured the mount place to the base now with the flat screwdriver so it is nice and secure and the manufacturer does recommend that every six months to check these screws to make sure they are tight. It is very important for the first six months and then another six months to make sure they got them good and tight. Our next step will be connecting the blades to the fan. "
