"Hello! My name's Grady Johnson and I'm a professional painter. And, today I represent ExpertVillage.com. Now, I want to talk a little bit about spot priming. Now, spot priming is what you do whenever you have little spots that have been exposed to the elements, either they've peeled off, there's raw wood showing, or raw concrete. You definitely want to get a good primer on that to seal all that up. These will become evident after you've done your pressure washing. Now, spot priming is done whenever you have an area you feel will not cover with the final coat of paint. You do this to seal everything up a little bit better and to enable it to cover. Now, you can see here on these window seals, these are all really, really dirty. Even though I pressure washed it, that dirt and grime is sunk real deep into the old paint. And, it's really nasty. It's probably not going to cover very well. So, we want to go ahead and prime that area. Now, you can see up here where it's not gotten so much wear and dirt, it's still pretty good, so I don't need to worry about that spot. It's just down here where it's bad that I'm going to spot prime it. So, you want to get up in that corner. And, just go ahead and seal that up and sort of prime up those dark areas. Now, where it's real dark you know that's not going to cover with paint the way it's supposed to. So, we do a little spot priming on it. And, we just go ahead and take that window sill on down. Now, up here you see that's all pretty clean. I wouldn't worry about that too much. But any place you see that looks kind of rough, now see here, this raw wood right here, I'd go ahead and hit that real quick. And just touch those up with the paint. What that's going to do is seal every thing back up. That way when we come back over everything with the finish coat, it's going to cover it up the way it's supposed to. This is how you do the spot priming on the exterior of your house."
