"Hi! I'm Doug Smiddy of Smiddy's Gardening Services here on behalf of expertvillage.com. Today we are here to talk about starting your plants from seeds. Okay now in some cases the seed packet is going to tell you to soak the seed overnight or score the seed. The reason for that is you want to make sure that the shell of the seed is softened up enough so that the roots can come out and insure better germination. Now in this case we are going to use a Lupine which is a very hard shell seed. So what we are going to do is take one of the seeds and very carefully take a razor blade and hold the seed between your fingers and just very lightly make a slight little cut in there. It doesn't have to go any depth into the seed. Just enough to break the seal of that coat. Or if you have a little time and you don't need to plant until tomorrow, what I've done here is taken some moist paper towels and thrown them in there. The moisture will soften up that seed. You will be all set to plant the next day. "
