"Hi! I'm Doug Smiddy of Smiddy's Gardening Services here on behalf of expertvilalge.com. Today we are going to talk about how to plant, grow and harvest potatoes at this point. Now bearing in mind that potatoes are an underground crop, I want to prepare a growing medium for it underground. So what I do is dig a trench and hopefully the spot that you have chosen, the soil isn't too hard to dig. So that is better for your back and better for the potatoes. What I do is go about a foot down and about a shovel width wide kind just like that. There is another really big reason for digging a trench and that is because we are going to use this dirt later on. As the potatoes grow up, we have to do what is called tilling them and you want to kind of keep it level the best that you can. It doesn't have to be perfect. Just like any other thing in gardening, you try to make it simple and as easy as possible and really just dig the trench out like that, not too hard, nice and easy. Just shave off the layers and you are just about ready to plant now."
